![]() They are coming out with a game later this year (kingdom 80s) which reportedly will have different missions with a variety of objectives. No gameplay variation to make it interesting I see what you mean, but I suppose interesting is in the eye of the beholder Strategy games like FTL, into the breach, xcom, even things like total war or RTS games: outwit/outmaneuver your enemy to shoot/stab them better than they can shoot/stab you, improve your tech to shoot/stab even better, win the arms race, continue shooting/stabbing Sports: do the sport over and over (I like sports games a lot, don't play them much these days other than Super Blood Hockey cause most of them are expensive, but really enjoyed them when I was younger) Shooters: run around, shoot bad guy, reload, do it again (with different weapons, enemy types, locations to try to lend variety, but it's really the same thing, and sequels more or less the same thing) When you get down to it, most games really have one loop over and over - whether or not you enjoy the game, and for how long, depends on how much you are hooked by that loopįirst time I realized/was exposed to this was some making-of documentary for Halo 2. In my opinion they've done a better job than, say, the Madden franchise which rarely has anything new of substance from year to year but Madden has the appeal (for some) of updated controls, graphics, rosters, etc I certainly understand that it won't hold everyone's attention for that long, but I also think it's probably worth the list price or at least a sale price if you enjoyed Kingdom Classic, you'll probably get a kick out of the new twists. ![]() It isn't the deepest game, but it continues to provide me with new challenges and it's beautiful and charming. There are new bells and whistles that increase variety, strategies used to build, defend base, and I find those updates/upgrades highly satisfying, but a skeptic might suggest it's all window dressing and it's really the same game.Įdit: more precise answer -> I have hundreds of hours in two crowns after playing Classic, New Lands and the flash game prior to Two Crowns. The basic game loop of "build a base, recruit dudes, watch your villagers defend it, attack the bad guys" has not changed. I'd already played like 150 hrs when Norse Lands got going and my jaw actually dropped at the first new "ability" - it totally changes the way the game can be played and makes it something new (imo)Įdit: out of curiosity, what are some examples of sequels/series where you feel there really were significant differences in the core gameplay loop from one game to the next? I think reasonable people could disagree about what changes/examples actually constitute significant/worthy changes to the core gameplay loop of a game If that sounds fun to you, you might like it! If not, you might not!īecause the biomes do have different abilities (not just cosmetic), i'd recommend getting a handle on the basic biome first. i like to think about it like you're building your own game board and then playing it out and seeing if you prepared well enough. ![]() For two crowns alone i've played 268 hours as of right now. I try to win a reign by day 100 (for no real reason), but time can keep going, enemies get stronger/more #s. the calendar works differently in each game, but same across two crowns, and villager abilities change in some seasons which add new challenges. changing the difficulty levels changes the game significantly too in terms of how quick you need to work/strategize. ![]() The enemy types change slightly to interact with the different abilities/mounts in each biome.
